Guiding Goals

Running River is dedicated to experiential, real life, meaningful education and to providing a learning environment through which all curriculum is integrated to achieve these goals:
- A code of conduct centered on respect: for self, for others and for the world we live in, and the creation of a safe, loving, inclusive environment where all students, parents and teachers are accountable and part of a democratic process.
- The awakening and growth of a personal relationship to the natural world and a deep sensitivity to our home planet, in order to develop necessary earth stewardship.
- Knowledge of and confidence in one’s body, to be at home in and an explorer of the wilderness, and the acquisition of the foundational physical skills needed to play all sports.
- A relationship to one’s own self and inner life through regular contemplation/alone/quiet time.
- High academic standards based on an assessment of each child and approached through individualized as well as group learning modules.
- Communication skills, which teach each child the fine art of receptivity and listening, speaking honestly, directly and from the heart, and the ability to problem solve, explore and fully express one on one and in a group process.
- Time and the necessary support to pursue self-directed and self-motivated personal interests and help with welcoming and learning to approach challenges.
- Service as an integral part of education: the creation of school and community service projects which manifest theme studies into valuable actions.
- Opportunities to contribute and participate in the creative processes of all the arts: music, theater, art and play!
- Learning practical life skills that enable a person to care for themselves and others as they move through life.
