Science

Depending on the season, we spend solid amounts of time outdoors in the various open spaces and mountain parks around Boulder. We use the natural world as our science laboratory. We study plants, trees, insects, animals, air, water, earth, fire, weather, biology, geology, ecology and the impact of people on the environment. This is done through giving children the opportunity to engage and learn through a variety of experiences and tools: experience that develops the senses and deeper perceptions, observations, data collection, scientific methods, questioning, forming hypothesis and good old kid exploration. We also show children creative solutions for living in harmony with nature, but also examples of neglect and disregard.

There is a strong emphasis on the children learning about their bodies. Since our bodies are the vehicles through which we learn and engage life, we teach them about anatomy: how do our organs work, what happens when we eat different kinds of food, what happens when we eat fast or slow, what affects the health of our organs? We believe that children should know all about the inner workings of their bodies in order to understand how to stay healthy.
